Volunteer opportunities at Forget Me Not Farm

Volunteers are the lifeblood of any non-profit organization and Forget Me Not Children’s Services is no exception. Dedicated volunteers are essential to the ongoing success of our programs and we offer many volunteer opportunities for those who want to “give back” to the community.

Volunteerism is a great way to meet new people, learn new skills, gain insight, grow personally, and help build a better society.

Farm Volunteer

Farm Volunteer

Farm volunteers are needed Monday through Friday to help with the various groups of children who visit our program. The time commitment is small, just 60-90 minutes per week and an occasional related workshop once or twice a year. Placements are made according to schedule and need into a group of volunteers that help us do animal husbandry, and agricultural related activities with the children. The work is physical in nature, and focused on experiential process-oriented learning.

The volunteers and the children work side by side and use cooperation to tend to the animals and the gardens. This is a rewarding and dynamic volunteer position that offers opportunities to reconnect with the animals and the land, and forge new relationship with the special children that attend our program. We ask volunteers for a 1 year commitment, and they must be at least 21 years old and pass a standard background check.

Mentoring

Mentoring

Mentoring Sonoma County’s youth through our vocational training program. Mentors are matched with a teen and together they become a dynamic volunteer duo helping at the Forget Me Not Farm and the Sonoma Humane Society to care for our animals. This 2 hour per week commitment is a great opportunity to maximize your volunteer power and help both homeless and rescued animals and teens that need guidance. Volunteers must be at least 21 years old, and willing to make a 6 month commitment.

Gardening and Animal Care Volunteer

Gardening and Animal Care Volunteer

If you love the idea of working with just the farm residents, then we have a need for you as well. Volunteers are needed to assist with feeding and care of the resident farm animals seven days per week. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old.

Weekend weeders and green thumbs are always needed to assist with the maintenance and upkeep of our therapeutic gardens, as well as our production garden. The produce we harvest goes directly to the children, and we can always use an extra set of hands. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old. For more information, send an email to: [email protected]

Corporate Work Days

Corporate Work Days

We’d love to partner with your business to facilitate a day of giving for you and your employees. We will provide a project appropriate for groups ranging in size from 5-50 workers. We typically run these work days as a 3-6 hour team building experience. It’s a way for you and your employees to give back to a meaningful and needy charity, and also come together in a casual farm environment and connect outside of your usual work place. Past projects have included landscaping our orchard, moving soil amendment into our children’s produce garden, barn staining, barn cleaning, and minor building projects. The farm also has the capacity to host a post work lunch and BBQ, or we can make suggestions for your team to visit one of Sonoma counties great restaurants or breweries. Additionally, we set aside time for your group to meet and interact with our therapeutic farm animals, and hear more about the great work we are doing with at-risk youth and rescued farm animals. In order to maximize the efficacy of both the work day and the overall experience for your group we do not host workdays during the wet winter months.
